The Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command, has clarified circumstances surrounding the alleged arrest of the lawmaker representing Obubra State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Ovat Dickson Agbor, over a reported domestic dispute involving his wife.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, explained that the lawmaker was not arrested but had honoured an invitation by the police to assist in an ongoing investigation.
According to the statement, both Hon. Agbor and his wife reported to the police for questioning following a complaint relating to alleged domestic violence.
During the engagement with investigators, the police said both parties expressed willingness to resolve their differences after appeals were made by the wife.
“The Honourable member has since been released to a reliable surety, while the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal advice upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.
The Command assured the public that the matter is being handled professionally and in accordance with established legal procedures.
Police authorities further stated that investigations are ongoing and that the outcome will guide subsequent legal steps, including the forwarding of the case file for advice from the Attorney-General’s office.
